Five years ago our bi-weekly show started on Bassoradio and has been running non-stop since. All shows are available on this blog.
To celebrate this, like before, we've invited some rappers to perform live. But this time the line-up is gathered with a new vision. This time it's about us. This time we appear as a group who you might see together on stage one day. Not everyone can make it tonight though, but with this group it'll certainly be another epic anniversary.
So the lineup tonight will be SLTF / Iwere / Moonlit / Flyer / SQR / Kesken / Ameeba
Last year we did a 3-hour show with live video stream, featuring by Kube, Pijall, Kesken, Iwere, SQR, PPSH, Hirmu & Skele, Betonipossu, Tuuttimörkö, Iconico, Mindman, Radam... Pictures here!

Previous spectacles we did are available on the preview post about previous anniversary show: Preview: 4th Anniversary show!

Been a while since the whole posse has been in the studio (excl. DJTT).
Great show! Dumb played mainly new rap / trap, Ameeba with classic underground artists plus a quick cameo by Saame rapper Ailu Valle. My set was pretty experimental / rough industrial, with two new songs by me. I hadn't been on the show for a couple months, but it was great!

I feel it's time to make a few things clear and also announce some changes concerning the Ghetto Tyylit Record Shop.
Since day one, the ideology within our shop has been quite different than of your common record shop, business-wise especially, which also applies to all our other forms of activity, such as event managing. The function of Ghetto Tyylit, as a non-profit organization, has been to channel culture freely, creating opportunities for artists to be seen and heard in our radio show and events; and collecting their products together to shop with a selection focusing on alternative styles and formats of music by small-time artists. Our shop has pursued to give artists the maximum income possible from their products but also keeping the prices as low as possible for the consumer.
One way of achieving low fares for the customer and high margin for the artist is of course not to take anything for the house, except the most necessary fee to cover a few expenses like storage rent.
Thus we've never paid any wages or commissions to ourselves for maintaining the shop, shipping out records and so on. In other words, we've worked completely without salary. Please keep that in mind when you place an order or send us email or plan to visit us. We work the store on our free time out of sheer will and belief that this job matters. That is why we don't have specific opening hours and our response time to orders and inquiries are irregular and slow!
On the other hand, please also keep in mind that opposite to our slow response time, you also get the cheapest prices possible and the artist gets a higher share of his products than he would in any other shop. So placing an order to our shop is a great way to support the artist, even though you would have to wait for the item to arrive a week longer than from your average record shop.
So, summarized the ups & downs here: + unique selection of alternative new music from small-time local artists + small house fee = high artist margin - slow response time - low stocks (no chance for buy-ins from artists or wholesalers: we are fully dependent on what the artists bring in, or products that we manufacture ourselves)
Now, to announce some approaching changes: We've come to the conclusion that it is more efficient and better for ourselves too if we would concentrate our resources and cut out some loose edges, so to speak. That means we are slowly cutting down on all our operations and using the freed resources to making our own music and our own releases, for which we (or I especially) have hardly had enough time. We are musicians first and foremost, music is what we do best and through which we can best channel our souls, and give out to the world. I've realized, that selling other people's music and organizing shows only to put others beside myself there to perform, isn't leading me anywhere other than full-time stress and everyday bankrupt. I've realized that for me that's not a career, not what I really want to do from day to day. So we are slowly getting rid of our stock, starting from used records. We are aiming to replace the records brought in by "outsiders" with our own. We are to make more music ourselves and manufacture more releases ourselves, instead of being relied on what people bring in. We are to organize events to put ourselves onstage. The selection of our store will become smaller but even more unique and strong, I believe. Fuck it, I'm just so happy and relieved to finally give my time to myself. Time which I'm gonna use to make new music and release albums and projects that have been waiting for way too long – starting with the Tapanila tapes!
Alennuslisäveron (lipunmyynti 10%, levyt ja kaik muu 24%) lisäksi sinun maksamastasi tuotteesta on yhdistykselle tullut minimiosuus kattamaan pakollisimmat kulut, kuten työhuoneen/varaston vuokran.
Muusikoita me ollaan, aina ja ensisijaisesti.

Ghetto Styles show on Bassoradio has its 5th anniversary this spring. It's a long way to come, especially since the show has never maintained a simple continuous structure. From 9-hour-freestyle-mega-shows to one-man 2-hour-dj-sets. Interviews, special themes, or just good music chosen freely. It all started with underground hiphop. We took it back to that for three special episodes last fall. Since that I've personally felt that a story from my side has been told and a new book is to be written. That feeling is strongly pulling me somewhere else, maybe not only music-wise, I'm not sure. To write a book that has nothing to do with the previous one. Or perhaps during this whole time, that I've been playing songs on the radio, maintaining a record store, organizing events; I have been writing a book about other people's books, not writing a story of my own life. Thus I think I could give more from my soul and life's work by putting more, eventually all, of my resources into making music.
Excuse me for that train of thought, not the easiest things to understand maybe, but those feelings are what lead me to play this sort of set on the radio last night. I haven't been on the radio for a few months and I wasn't sure how I felt about going back there anymore, exactly because of that feeling that one large book is finished and I don't fully know yet what the new one should be about.
Still, last night was great fun, like always. I played the first hour, Ameeba the second. Iwere and DJTT were there to hang too. 5 years is a long time. I don't know if we ever made any significance to the world. Not a lot of feedback ever comes from these shows or anything. But it all felt like the right thing to do. And I'm not saying it's over, I'm just saying, thinking out-loud. Like anyone gave a damn, hahah! Okay just listen to the damn show. :D
